Chapter 5 - The Castle
Charles and Sonya stepped out of Hotel Chateau with their arms around each other. The air of Paris was warm and fresh after the previous night’s rain. They took deep breaths.
“God, I didn’t want a scene like that,” Sonya said. “There’s got to be better ways to separate from people.”
“Separate?” Charles said, “more like mash them. Why didn’t you warn me you were going to tell him this morning. I made a fool of myself. We should have prepared something. The right story could have smoothed things out if we both had been behind it.”
“There was no need to tell any stories,” Sonya said. “But listen, Charles. We’ve got to get our bags. We can’t go anywhere if we don’t get our clothes.”
“Jesus,” he said. “That damn Michael set us up. I need my bags.”
“We could take a taxi to the airport.”
“We won’t make it,” he said.
“What should we do?”
“We should call the airlines and have them leave the bags off the flight. Then we could go out there and get them.”
“We need someone who speaks French to call the airlines,” Sonya said.
They both turned and looked at the glass doors of Hotel Chateau.
